I made this video this morning and i hope it help explain the flashing wall detail where the siding meets the roof. The flat roofing material must go up the wall a minimum of 12 or up the wall and over the top of the wall if the wall is less than 12 high. Depending on the manufacturer s spec some roofing materials may require an ice barrier membrane on the entire roof. A critical and often overlooked design detail is at the termination of a parapet coping at a wall.

Here is an attempt though maybe not a very good one to make the roof flashing serve also as a through the wall flashing with a tile roof. Sometime the through wall flashing can be the same as the counter flashing. We ask for 6 inches up the wall. All exterior wall coverings whether it is wood siding vinyl siding brick or stone veneer stucco etc.

If the roof meets a wall that is parallel to the shingles roof up to the wall then slip a long continuous piece of flashing under the siding and on. Apply a flashing piece then a shingle then flashing as you would apply step flashing for a chimney.
